Talented Singers

Dan Silverstein

Dan co-founded the band Emunah with Darren Turze in 2003, and they have been getting bigger and better every year. The band won Cambridge SCA’s Battle of the Bands in 2005, and are progressing from UK gigs and festivals to the international scene. Dan is the lead MC, writing the lyrics for the world/drum’n'bass/hip-hop band’s songs.
In 2006, he set up PsychoSemitic, a series of club nights bringing people together to enjoy world bands, DJs, live art and dancing.

Sarah Sandford

Sarah has found success in the Cambridge Acoustic scene, having polished her singing at Jesus College’s Acousto evenings, run by Reuben Bard-Rosenberg, who plays guitar with her. Reuben and Sarah have performed at countless acoustic nights and May Balls, as well as further afield. They’re planning a visit to a recording studio, so come back later to hear more of their songs. Sarah’s pure voice isn’t her only talent – she has written her own songs, and taught herself the guitar to perform them herself, or accompanying Reuben. And to top it all, she has the looks and style of a model – no wonder she’s looking to take her top class degree to London’s advertising and ideas agencies.

Zoe Owen

When I was first told that Zoe sang quite well, I wasn’t prepared for the aural sensation that she delivered. The pure tone of her voice is unexpected but absolutely mesmerising; she also writes her own songs and performs them herself. Zoe could often be found performing at Jesus College’s Acousto, or exploiting the wonderful acoustics of the spiral staircase by her room in Caius.

She’s recently turned her talents to photography, and has already proven herself to have an eye for composition, and an interest in a wide range of genres, including sport, portraits, and performances.

One can only presume that her international career will provide her with ample photographic and musical opportunities.

Laura Hocking

With her myriad MySpace pages hosting a dozen of her songs, Laura first caught my attention as the special guest performer at the outdoor May Week special of Queens’ Candle Club in June ‘07. Her charming and quirky vocals, lyrics and melodies entertain and delight, and her online recordings add extra layers of harmonies and instrumentation.

Stand-out (and incredibly catchy) tracks include “Lola B’s Got Ultrazoom”, “Leonie Lauder’s Morning Jaunt”, and “Schrodinger’s Sparrow”.
